Hall of Fame pitcher · 511 career wins — still the most in Major League history · The man whose name baseball's greatest pitching honor still carries every year.

Denton True "Cy" Young was born in 1867 in the farm country of Tuscarawas County and spent much of his life in the Newcomerstown area. Over a 22-season career he won 511 games — a record that has never been broken and almost certainly never will be. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937.
Since 1956, the best pitchers in each major league have been honored with the Cy Young Award, keeping the name of this quiet Ohio farmer alive in every ballpark in America. He spent his final years near Newcomerstown, where he is fondly remembered.
